Industry Applications
Micro-joining Applications and Techniques
Small scale resistance welding and fine spot laser welding are
ideally suited to today's small part manufacturing jobs. You'll find
these techniques being used in a broad range of industries:
- Medical Devices - electrodes, sensors, IS-1 and IS-4 connectors, ICR's, leads
- Solar Cell Manufacturing - solar cell tabbing, cell interconnects
- Filter Manufacturing - resistance seam weld mesh, screens, and porous media filters
- Battery Manufacturing - battery packs, tabs, electrolyte fill port plugs, battery caps
Resistance Weld Benefits:
- No filler rod or material
- Extremely fast (typically less than 100ms per spot)
- Solid-state welding results in minimal part heating
- Low capital equipment cost
Laser Weld Benefits:
- No filler rod or material
- Non-contact, but does require precise material fitup
- Deep penetration and fusion results in strong welds
- Small heat effected zone, ideal for hermetic seal applications
As you can see, each joining technique has unique strengths and their
are often process overlaps.
